No part of the United States is immune from crime, including Northern Michigan. Crime in that part of the state has centered around such activities as child abuse and injury, armed robbery and assault. If you live in Michigan and have local channels from www.direct2tv.com/, you might have seen these stories on the news.

In Cheboygan County, 23-year-old Sean Bauers was charged and convicted of first-degree child abuse after being found guilty of shaking a one-year-old boy so severely he suffered broken ribs, bleeding on the brain and severe bruising. Bauers received a minimum sentence of 7.5 years and a maximum of 30 years, which pleased prosecutors involved with the case. The child, who has been recovering in a local hospital for over five months, is doing well but is expected to have some long-term complications as a result of his injuries.

Meanwhile in Gladwin County, police are on the lookout for a person of interest in the robbery of a gun store. Police are looking to speak with 25-year-old Charles Rowan regarding the robbery of the Guns and Stuff shop in Sage Township. The store’s 70-year-old owner, Robert Robinette, was suffering from head trauma when police arrived on scene. He was taken to a local hospital, received treatment and is expected to recover. A witness to the crime, 30-year-old Rosalinda Martinez, is also wanted by police for interviewing. However, she has recently become uncooperative and difficult to locate. Citizens with any pertinent information should contact the Gladwin County Sheriff’s Department.

A home invasion also took place recently. Police say 24-year-old Robert Smith was charged with attempted murder and armed robbery after he and three others broke into the home of a 55-year-old man. During the invasion a fight broke out and the victim was shot in the leg, but is expected to make a complete recovery.

To help combat crime in the area, the Motmorency County Sheriff’s Department has received help from taxpayers by receiving enough money to hire five deputies. These additional officers will now allow for 24-hour coverage of the area, letting residents and business owners feel safer about themselves and their property. With taxpayer help, the crime rate in Northern Michigan should see a significant drop.

Many local towns are fighting to save a local thrift store in Manistee, Michigan. The thrift store slated to close is a branch of the Salvation Army Family Store. Large petitions with other 200 names have been submitted to the Salvation Army’s corporate office with requests not to close this particular branch. The thrift store has been part of Manistee’s community for around forty years; in the downed economy many people have been relying on the discounted second hand goods to survive. The unemployment rate and the number of individuals solely on Social Security income are higher than the national average.Additional information can be found at http://sassysadieblog.wordpress.com/2013/03/19/can-we-go-thrift-shopping-salvation-army/. Salvation Army has decided that the store is unprofitable. It is unclear at this point whether the petitions will have an effect on the closure of the store. The townspeople are hoping the Salvation Army corporate offices will rethink their intention of closing the store. However, it is a possibility that the thrift store will close as scheduled.

Manistee, Michigan located in the Upper Peninsula of the State of Michigan has had a Salvation Army Thrift Store for over 40 years. Now it is scheduled to close the last of June 2012.

In this current economy with so many people relying of Social Security and unemployment checks because many have lost their jobs for one reason or another, families are relying more on thrift stores than ever before. One such thrift store is the Salvation Army Thrift Store in Manistee, Michigan. This store has been in the business of lending a helping hand to thousands of people over the course of the last 40 years. According to store staff this store has is making a monthly profit in addition to servicing their community. However, their corporate offices feel the store is losing money for Salvation Army and set plans in motion to close up shop the end of June 2012.

The community of Manistee is sick over the store closing and has submitted over 200 names to the corporate office to please keep the store open, as people rely on their services.

The emotional rollercoaster Roscommon county residents having been riding has now finally ended. They are now feeling breathing easier and feeling far more secure since fugitive Everett Robinson was recaptured by police on May 29, 2012 after a week of playing hide and seek with police. Several anonymous witness tips lead police to discover him hiding in a densely wooded area.

Police agencies and Roscommon county citizens had remained on high alert since May 14 when Everett Robinson’s hasty escape from police during a jail transport led to an extensive weeklong manhunt for his recapture. Robinson overwhelmed a deputy then took his cellular phone, gun and the police cruiser racing off towards Houghton Lake. State Police released few details but did state that Robinson was discovered hiding in a camouflaged deer blind in Nestor Township.

He was immediately arraigned in court on eight felony counts including assault and battery, armed robbery, carjacking and absconding. The original charge of a home invasion is still being pursued. The judge instantly denied bail and bond when prosecutors successfully cited Everett Robinson as a flight risk after his little wilderness adventure. He is currently detained in at the Roscommon County jail where he is looking at a very lengthy incarceration.

Terrified Roscommon County Residents can now sleep a little better in their homes. As of May 30th, Roscommon County Sheriff’s Department apprehended escaped fugitive Everett Robinson. During transport on May 21, 2012, Robinson had apprehended the officer’s gun and handcuffs, fleeing from facing jail time.

Local county police departments have been searching the woods for the last week straight, working twelve hour shifts in a rather harsh environment. Neighboring communities have been supportive in the efforts of capturing Robinson, aiding in the search.

Robinson had been in prison for 9 years, charged on sexual misconduct prior to being released. Prior to escaping custody, Robinson had been charged with armed robbery and carjacking. Now he faces escape charges as well.

Police had been searching the woods located near Robinson’s escape. After a week, they found him sleeping inside a deer blind twenty-four miles from his escape. Apparently Robinson had been breaking and entering hunting cabins to obtain food and clothing. Robinson did not try to escape the officers this time. He will be treated at the local county hospital for evaluation prior to being taken back to the county jail. Police thank everyone participating in Robinson’s capture.

Everett Robinson, a convicted sex offender, escaped from northern Michigan police custody on May 21, 2012. While being transported for a court hearing, Robinson managed to slip one hand out of the handcuffs. He then disarmed the deputy transporting him. He got away with the transport vehicle, the deputy’s gun and cell phone.

A manhunt involving more than 50 police officers, helicopters, and tracking dogs is being conducted in the dense forest areas around Houghton Lake Michigan. Police say that Robinson ditched the transport vehicle a few miles down the road, and left his county issued jumpsuit and shoes with the vehicle. He is believed to be running barefoot wearing grey shorts and a grey shirt.

Robinson is a white male, 5’10″ weighing 200 pounds. He was spotted on May 23, 2012 when he held a gun to a womens head. He asked her if he could come into her home. When she denied him access to the home he pointed the gun at her. He fled on foot after the woman called 911

Police later discovered a footprint believed to be Robinson’s near a deer blind that is believed to have been burglarized. The search continues for the bare foot escapee.
