Nissan announced a recall after possible problems with fuel spillage after rear end crash tests.
The recall involves 46,000 Cube hatchbacks. Nissan says tests conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration found more fuel spilled than federal standards allow. The spillage occurred during rear end crash tests where the vehicle also spun around. Nissan said its own earlier tests did not show any fuel leakage, but it will issue a voluntary recall. Nissan notified dealers last week and will contact owners on August 30th. Dealers will attach a special protector to prevent leaks. The recall covers model year 2009 and 2010 Cubes. The Cube was introduced in Asia before being sold in the US last year. For more information, Owners can call Nissan at 800-647-7261, or the Department of Transportation's Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236.
