A Manistee County family is mourning the loss of their dog after police say a neighbor shot and killed it.

Today the Manistee County prosecutor issued an arrest warrant for that neighbor on a felony charge of killing and torturing an animal.

Two weeks ago, Dave Solberg's two young German Shepherds had wandered away from home to a nearby field.

When Solberg arrived, they came running toward him, and that's when he says a shot rang out from a neighboring property.

The bullet his one of the dogs, and she died three days later.

The Manistee County Sheriff says a neighbor confessed to shooting the dog because he was tired of it coming onto his property.
   
The sheriff's department has already taken the accused shooter's rifle away, and they can now go through with an arrest.
